Contemporary cultural media have brought us beyond traditional origins and interpretations of typography. This project investigates how our everyday experiences provide opportunities into alternate means of typographic perception. Personally, these everyday experiences include fine art, systemic design, and very loud, aggressive, punk music.
The foundation of Black Square stems from Russian Suprematism and the motif of a square rotated 45°. From there, the design language was expanded to include extreme contrast between strokes and the juxtaposition of circular and square components. With these parameters, modules were created reused to create a full typeface. This was all done while listening exclusively to screamo.
